This project was commissioned in 2019 by first time author Adam B. Hayes. His 1000 word poem featured a toad who was unhappy with his home and decides to embark on a journey to see the world.
To get started I was commissioned to create a series of storyboards and some character concept art.
We met to discuss the mood and feel of the illustrations and agree on some slight amendments to some of the compositions. Once Adam was happy with my plans I went ahead and created 24 illustrations to match his story.
All the work was created using traditional materials - watercolour paint, fineliner ink and graphite.
On completion of the illustrations I then digitally scanned and edited the images using Photoshop. I also illustrated a border to go around the text inside the book and created a cover for the story to Adam's specification. I formatted the book into a print ready PDF for Adam using Adobe InDesign and presented all the original illustrations to him in a binder.
